It Takes a Community to Educate a Child –
Be Part of the 100 Pack Today

To commemorate Volunteers of America Greater Sacramento’s centennial, we are starting the exclusive 100 Pack. The 100 Pack is designed for those who want to take their community into their own hands and make a difference in the lives of children.

Everyone likes a goal, so what is yours when you join the 100 Pack? May we suggest collecting as many backpacks and supplies as possible? Push yourself to get to 100 filled backpacks!

You’ve heard the saying “Two heads are better than one.” Well, when it comes to Operation Backpack, four hands are better than two! Gather your personal network of friends, relatives, neighbors, colleagues, fellow service-group and faith-based organization members, and start your own group drive today!

It’s easy as A-B-C:

A | Recruit friends, family, and colleagues to collect backpacks and supplies

B | Sign-up to host your very own drive

C | Download school supply lists and publicity materials

Say 'hello' to your favorite KCRA personalities July 22

Consider dropping off your group's backpack donation between 4:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Friday, July 22, when Tri Counties Bank and KCRA will host our annual Operation Backpack community drop-off event at the Tri Counties Bank Sacramento Arden Fair branch parking lot (1760 Challenge Way, Sacramento). Volunteers of America staff and volunteers, Tri Counties Bank staff and KCRA's on-air news team will all be there throughout the day to accept your packs as you drive through.

Campaign Hosting Tips

  • Start early! Operation Backpack takes place in July, when many families are traveling. Give your friends notice so they can plan accordingly.
  • Make it easy! People are more likely to participate if you make it convenient for them. Offer to go shopping, or collect money in lieu of backpacks and school supplies.
  • Spread the word! If you're leading the efforts on behalf of your company, make announcements in your newsletters (hard-copy and e-mail versions), and during staff meetings. Encourage executive leadership to match donations. Display Operation Backpack fliers in high-traffic areas, such as break rooms and near beverage/snack machines. To help, we have news releases, fliers and posters to download from our Spread the Word page.
  • Set goals! Everyone likes the feeling of accomplishment.
  • Use the web! Take advantage of social media and websites to update your campaign's status and highlight the accomplishments of your team.
  • Share your photos! Send us photos of your group's Operation Backpack activities that we may post on our Facebook page, and on our website.
  • Have fun!!!
