Thousands of homeless children go back to school each year with no school supplies. YOU C
AN HELP. The success of Operation Backpack is dependent on the support of volunteers. From July 5 through 28, you can help fulfill a variety of roles, including:

Operation Backpack Volunteering Flier

Runners

  • Responsible for delivering campaign materials to drop-off locations prior to start of the drive, including posters, supply lists and boxes
  • Will replenish materials at drop-off locations as needed
  • Collect backpacks from drop-off locations at least once per week between July 8 and 22, and deliver to our sorting-and-distribution site
  • Make “running” a part of your routine! To view locations near your home, work, or school, click here

Sorters

  • Help audit donated backpacks to ensure they are filled with age-appropriate school supplies (sorting days will take place between July 8 and 28, and we ask that you are available for a minimum of two days to help maintain continuity – times are flexible)

  • Organize and identify backpacks according to grade levels.

Pick-a-Pack Day Event Volunteer

  • Help organize Pick-a-Pack Day, the kick-off to our backpack distribution
  • Check-in attendees, assist children in picking out their backpacks, and provide support on event day

To volunteer for any of these roles, please contact us at OperationBackpack@voa-sac.org.
