Shelter from the Storm Breakfast
On May 1, 470 individuals gave one hour of their time to learn more about our neighbors in need. You heard James's story of change, going from foster care, to being a homeless alcoholic; and his incredible transformation into the husband, father and small business owner he is today with the help of Volunteers of America's transitional housing program for former foster youth.
In James's own words, "On behalf of myself and my family I want to take this opportunity to thank you for helping me beat the statistics and helping become the man that I am today. Thank you."
We were also blessed to watch Kent Lacin's film (below) exploring the struggles faced by our brave men and women when their military service is over. And how the dedicated men and women at our Veterans program are working to help them heal the wounds of war and homelessness. Our CEO Leo McFarland shared his hopes for the coming years.
