Clients' stories highlight 2007 Shelter from the Storm Breakfast

Board member Lee Grutchfield (left) introduces Janie Shumaker, daughter of former client Mike Shumaker, at
the 2007 Shelter from the Storm Breakfast.

Shelter from the Storm breakfast
A single father of six with substance abuse and anger-management issues, a couple whose addictions led to homelessness and run-ins with the police, and a young mother whose "perfect life" turned into a nightmare of meth abuse, movingly told their stories of renewed hope and redemption during the fifth annual Volunteers of America Shelter from the Storm Breakfast May 17, 2007.

Presented in person, as well on video, these testimonials by former clients echoed the same message: everyone's life can take a wrong turn, but change for the better is always possible. Leading the fundraiser's proceedings were Volunteers of America board members Leo McFarland, Lee Grutchfield and Sherman Haggerty.

More than 280 people attended this year's event presented at the Radisson Hotel Sacramento.

Shelter from the Storm 2007 was made possible through the sponsorship of F&M Bank.

Additional underwriting was provided by Sig-1 Graphics, Kent Lacin Media Services and Dave Adams Photography.
