2008 Turkey Drive extended!

Thanksgiving dinner
The sixth annual Volunteers of America Turkey Drive, originally scheduled for Nov. 3-23, has been extended due to a shortfall of donations this year.

We invite the community to donate a fresh or frozen turkey to our Central Kitchen facility at 700 North Fifth St., Sacramento (7 a.m.- 6 p.m. daily).

Financial contributions to this year's Turkey Drive may be made online now, by mail (Volunteers of America, Administration Office, 1900 Point West Way, Suite 270, Sacramento, CA 95815), or in person at the Central Kitchen or at our administration office. Administration office hours are from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

“A traditional turkey dinner for Thanksgiving and Christmas is a treat for our clients, and looked forward to with great anticipation,” said Eric R. Nichols, program director of Volunteers of America’s Central Kitchen, whose staff prepares the meals for Volunteers of America programs.

During the 2007 holiday season, the Greater Sacramento community donated almost 300 turkeys to our annual turkey drive campaign, with more than $1,100 contributed in cash donations. In 2006, 700 turkeys were donated.

As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.
