Adopt-a-Family donors make Christmas merry at Omega

Almost 150 families, as well as 800 singles, were "adopted" for Christmas
by compassionate benefactors
through Volunteers of America's
2007 Adopt-a-Family program.

Omega Project
The Sacramento community again demonstrated its generosity during the recent Christmas season, taking on the wish lists of some 150 families and more than 800 singles served by Volunteers of America programs.

Thirteen families and seven singles served by the Omega Project were gifted with clothes, toys and more thanks to a number of sponsoring organizations and individuals, including the California Farm Bureau Federation, Starbucks and the Sac State Greek council and student athletes.

The gifts were distributed at Omega's annual holiday party held Dec. 18.

Case manager Maria Guadardo literally played Santa Claus, donning the Kringle's traditional red suit and white beard to hear the wishes of the children in attendance.

Their wishes were answered more quickly than they could have imagined as staff brought out gift-wrapped packages galore courtesy of Christmas-spirited groups and individuals throughout the Sacramento area.

No one left the party empty-handed and while Christmas was still officially a week away, the spirit of the holiday couldn't have been stronger.
